Ailefroide Thunder

Our first day here began with a forecast of rain around midday, so we decided to go for a run in the morning. We started from the campsite, aiming to run above Glacier Noir. The run up the valley was at a lovely pace, allowing us to enjoy the stunning, world-famous scenery.

We made it to the bridge after the Refuge du Pré de Madame Carle, only to find it had been swept away in an avalanche. We had the choice to cross the river further up or turn back. As the clouds were moving in, we chose to turn back.

The run down the valley was brilliant. About two-thirds of the way back, there was thunder overhead – exciting!

We started to run much quicker but still got caught out. We made it to the village cafe a little wet, but enjoyed some crepes and chips.
