Y Lliwedd Traverse

We fancied a quick afternoon run combined with a scramble, all while not having to put in too much ascent after a busy week. We got the bus up to Pen-y-Pass and set off running up the Miners Track. It was busy, but most people take the Pyg Track, so it was quite a pleasant run to the first scramble.

The first scramble was called Y Gribin, grade 1. We climbed this, and given the lack of effort so far, the views were absolutely stunning. The scramble had lovely rock, though broken in places, all the way. Sticking to the left seemed to lead to the most interesting moves. From the top, we ran along to Y Lliwedd, a first for me, as I’d never been along this side of the Snowdon Horseshoe before!

The route up the ‘Traverse of Lliwedd’ was also grade 1, though very soft in its grade. We ran along the ridge and eventually dropped back down to Llyn Llydaw.

We finished with a run along the Miners Track back to Pen-y-Pass, then got the bus back down. We made it to the village at 5:25, just in time for an ice cream and a relax beside the lake.

A relatively easy day out, but very enjoyable and great to tick off a first!
