We started the day with breakfast at the Torridon shop and café. We decided on a slow start because the weather was supposed to improve throughout the day, eventually clearing at the summits. (We were also busy avoiding midges for most of the morning.) We set off up Mullach an Rathain (1,024 m) and, on the way up, opted to tackle the Grade 2 scramble up a spur rising from around the 600m mark.

The scramble was good, and we caught glimpses of the loch below through breaks in the clouds.

From the summit, we continued along the path until we reached the Liathach traverse scramble. It’s a Grade 2 on impressive rock—or at least it would have been if we could see it…

We made our way along quickly as the wind was biting. We eventually summited Liathach—Spidean a’ Choire Leith (1,055 m)—which was a very impressive summit (similar to Great Gable). As we descended, we decided we might as well complete the set, so we summited Stuc a’ Choire Dhuibh Bhig (915 m). At this point, the clouds gave way to reveal some impressive views in golden hour lighting, which made the whole traverse worthwhile!

We enjoyed the views for a good few minutes before descending and finishing at the van.

Given the forecast, we couldn’t have gotten more from the day, and it turned out to be a very enjoyable outing!
