El and I set off from the cottage for a run over the Glyders. Due to a poor clothing choice, I ended up running back to the cottage to change, giving El a head start up the slate quarry.

I caught up with her on the inclines to the right of Australia and showed her my fun route to the top of Elidir Fawr. It was beautiful weather in the valley, but as we gained height, we were surprised by how windy it was—and how bitterly cold the wind felt! It’s definitely that time of year when hats and gloves are a must.

We summited the first mountain, then ran over to Y Garn and down towards Llyn y Cwn. At this stage, we started seeing a lot of runners taking part in the GB Ultra races (80 km & 160 km). We made the gruelling ascent up the scree slopes to Glyder Fawr and ran over past Glyder Fach, descending the miner’s track to the A498—still seeing runners!

We finished at the Pen Y Pass Youth Hostel, rewarding ourselves with a burger and chips before catching the bus back down to Llanberis.
It was a fantastic run, with 1,900 m of ascent—perfect training towards our running goals!
