El and I took Friday off work to spend the day celebrating my birthday. This meant we could stay late at the final salsa session of the year! We were up at 7:30 to get to Rhosneigr beach as early as possible. We fancied catching some surf, and the conditions looked more favorable until midday.
When we arrived, we scoped out the sea and decided to give it a go.

The wind was howling onshore, and the waves were breaking every 5–6 seconds. No matter how hard we tried, we couldn’t get more than a few meters past where the waves were crashing. I felt like I was getting battered and figured El wasn’t enjoying herself much either. We lasted about 10 minutes before calling it a day.
That said, I felt brilliantly refreshed afterward! A post-surf brew in the van hit the spot. After chilling for an hour, we decided to grab some lunch. At a lovely local cafe.

At 2 pm, we had a booking for the sauna hut on the beach. After 15 minutes in the sauna, we somehow thought another dip in the sea would be a great idea.
Cue a short run to the water, a swift smackdown by a wave, and an equally fast dash back to the sauna—tail firmly between our legs. That was enough to convince us we didn’t need to go back in again!
Back at the cottage, I managed a quick run along Clegir Road, cooked dinner, and we settled in to watch a film in front of the fire.
It was a great day and such a nice change to head to the beach instead of the mountains.
