The weather on Sunday wasn’t looking quite as promising as Saturday, and with a mountain adventure planned for Monday, we decided a linear fell run would be the perfect way to make the most of it. El requested something with a decent distance, a reasonable amount of ascent, plenty of quick-progress paths, and just a bit of bog and snow to keep things interesting. The Pilgrims’ Way run I’d done in December seemed to tick all the boxes!

We drove to Penygroes and left a car there, starting our run up through the stunning slate quarry. The Welsh views were cracking as we climbed. The real adventure began when we crossed the plateau beneath Mynydd Mawr, skirting around Moel Tryfan. That section was a proper challenge—at least ankle-deep in flowing snowmelt! El was chuffed to find out just how good the VJ I Rocks I got her for Christmas really were. The rain, meanwhile, was blowing sideways, so by the time we reached the descent to Waunfawr, we were ready to get out of the wind.

From Waunfawr, we wove our way through the farms to join the Slate Trail above Llanberis. We got back home with just 10 minutes of daylight left—perfectly timed. Now, fire on and feet up!
