We woke at 7:30 and had a leisurely start. After packing up camp, we left the 3,600m plateau around midday to make our way to the 4,200m camp.

The walk wasn’t steep, though the snow patches were pretty soft. We reached camp and had just started setting up the tent when the weather turned — rain and hail came in fast. We dived into the tent and waited it out until around 5pm, then cooked dinner in sleety snow.

We were in our sleeping bags by 7pm, alarms set for midnight. This is our only weather window for a summit attempt on Kazbek, so fingers crossed the fresh snow doesn’t stop us.
