After our first night at the Jenatsch Hut, we had a ski tour planned up to Piz Calderas. A perfect warm-up day—no need to carry all our gear, so lighter bags all around.
We skinned up the valley and onto the glacier, making steady progress towards the summit. We managed to skin almost all the way up, only needing to take off our skis for the final 100m, tackling the last stretch on foot. The 360° views from the top were incredible! We had a quick bite to eat, then clipped back into our skis for the descent.
The ski down was brilliant—an exciting line back to the glacier. Chris and Barney peeled off to climb another route to a second summit, while El, Hannah, and I skied down the Vadret Calderas glacier, somehow still managing to find untouched lines.
We made it back to the hut with plenty of time to soak up the afternoon sun, tea, cake, and a well-earned beer. A perfect second day to the tour!.
